Friday in the Conference-Laden Land of Bungalows

Book your travel now, people! I love being at ground zero for conferences; it's the lazy person's way to see friends on a regular basis. Random ten:

1. she does everything for me, we the people
2. rise up with fists!!!, jenny lewis with the watson twins
3. the boogie monster, gnarls barkley
4. statue of liberty, xtc
5. non-pythagorean composition, apples in stereo
6. fuck and run, liz phair
7. tender years, george jones
8. (what's so funny 'bout) peace, love and understanding?, the holmes brothers
9. open eyes, the apples in stereo
10. typical girls, the slits

And the tenacious Apples in Stereo, despite contributing only one cd to my assortment, continue with their strong representation. Yeah! Who doesn't love an underdog?

that's a mighty fine randon ten. here's the best my itunes could come up with thus far today (this morning it had a sort of world music/classical spasm):

1. lonesome day blues--bob dylan
2. sutukun--orchestra baobab
3. tower of our tuning--broadcast
4. sweet sixteen bars--ray charles
5. stella was a diver and she was always down--interpol
6. fury eyes--the creatures
7. joy spring--gil evans
8. midnight special--joey defrancesco with jimmy smith
9. monty got a raw deal--r.e.m.
10. you could feel the sky--boards of canada

and as i finish writing out this list, i'm being lulled into a prelunch spaceout by the soft swing of arturo sandoval.

Ray Charles! I may have to get some of that post-Motown.

It feels so personal, doesn't it? It's like, "why, why do you never play the Bettye Lavette?" Or, "don't you even think of playing another Beatles song." It would be so much simpler to just queue up the damn music you want to hear, but that takes away the excitement of "ooooooh, I love this song!" like you're listening to a random radio station that has no ideas on your personal taste but has just played your favoritest track.

People are odd creatures, I guess is what I'm saying. Or just I am.

no no, i fully appreciate the one-sided love/hate relationship we all have with our itunes libraries. and it's our own fault, really. who do we think put the entire le nozze di figaro opera on our itunes anyway? still, what the fuck is the deal with beatles songs on random anyway? i have well over 5000 songs, they ALWAYS come up. i think sir paul is up to something.

Truly, it initially seems like there's no down side to loading the entire 8-disc Loretta Lynn collection.

I always assumed the Beatles thing was just me, because they've got the largest representative sampling in my library, but now I'm totally convinced it's like payola.
