Happy New Year's!

Hope you're up to some fun this evening to ring in 2009 in style. For my part, I'm hunkering in, cooking, and watching movies and Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve or whatever the hell he calls it these days.

Marya went to bed at 10. I stayed up until 11:30 to feed Jacob and went to bed at 11:58. My own personal f... you to 2009.

Wow. A premature flip off to the new year.

I was watching "live" coverage of Times Square at 11:59 CST, and let me tell you, I had a confusing few moments of ascertaining that my conception of time zones was squaring with reality. Also, who does Tim Russert's brother now have a gig on NBC? And following up on some of the incoherent people he talked to, who are these idiots standing for 12 hours in 20 degree weather??

That would be "why does Tim Russert's brother..." Yeesh.

Tourists, or at best, bridge and tunnel folks. Manhattanites avoid Times Square as best they can during the rest of the year. On New Year's Eve, most of us would rather spend time in a Superfund clean up site without a radiation suit than have to go within ten blocks of the place.
