Somewhere, Dick Cheney Is Smiling

It's good to be king, or queen, as the case may be:

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - On the eve of a report on a legislative panel's abuse-of-power investigation into Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, campaign officials released their own report clearing her of any wrongdoing.

In other breaking news, I've looked into the matter and declared myself innocent of all office-supply borrowing charges.

Okay, so apparently Acorn has been stuffing fake voter registration forms all around the Midwest. See here. What the f***? We're AHEAD, people, and you go and pull this Mickey Mouse s*** that will have every right wing wacko saying Obama stole the election for the next four years. AAARRRGGHHH!!!!1

Well, that's ridiculous and idiotic. And the why of it is baffling, unless they enlisted lazy volunteers who were told to collect X number of signatures, slapped it down themselves, and called it a day.

But we know that registrations /= votes, and to make that translate, in coordinated fashion to votes on election day would require a conspiracy so vast that it would be damn near impossible to carry off without detection.

So, really not helpful and will be spun into the GOP "voter integrity" mission. Likely, the culprits here are freelance morons who are lazy and/or think they're funny.

Or, here's a thought: Republicans? What better way to tar the opposition than to volunteer, then make mischief?

I wouldn't put it past them, but a Republican that devoted to the cause would probably find it difficult to keep himself from vomiting when in close contact with liberal democrats, so...tricky to pull off.

True, voter registrations do not votes make, but it will give the GOP more fuel for the fire. But GOPer's, if Dems are such experts at voter fraud, why hasn't it worked for the past 8 years?

My only hope is that Obama wins by such a huge margin that the inflated number of "irregularities" the GOP targets won't even come close to affecting the overall results.

I think that will be the case. It may be a tight margin in a place like Ohio, where McCain is running really strongly, but on the whole, I don't think it will matter apart from confusing the issue (people will think this means voter fraud when it manifestly isn't) and giving Republicans grudges and conspiracy theories to nurse, plus justification to further restrict voting at the state level.

Frankly, the more I think about it, the more likely it seems like Republicans. These are people, let's not forget, who put in the time and energy to circulate fliers telling people that they will be arrested if they have outstanding parking tickets.

Then there's stuff like this.

And this.

And like this stuff.

My bad. The ACORN workers are paid, but the point about cranking it out and getting it done still applies.

ee here.
