Get the Skinny on Your ZIP Code

Here.

In Bungalowville, we're pretty average, solidly working class, ethnically diverse. My previous neighborhood, in contrast, significantly higher median income.

10010's residents are well-educated (95% hold a high school diploma, 70% a college diploma) have a median income of $62,000 and are mostly lily white (73%). We don't believe in marriage (34% married) and there are more women than men (but that's NYC for you). Now, I saw a few quirks in a nearby zip code they compared mine to and this one makes me doubt their figures altogether. Check it out and see if you can explain it to me: 10165.

Is it a college campus, by any chance? Low ages, high high education rates, no marrieds, no one there for 5+ years, 0 unemployment, yet 100% below the poverty line at $2K per year??? That's my guess. My alma mater has at least 1 dedicated zip code that only represents campus addresses.

Good thought, but no. There's no university there. It's smack in the middle of midtown, by the library and Grand Central, so I think there's a bug in the system.

Huh. I tried looking up the zip, but all I could find was 10163, which was Grand Central's dedicated zip.
