Marya and I share our iPod, so I refuse to be associated with portions of its contents.

The beauty in that is that you have someone to blame.

In contrast, I bring up the earnest 90s singer-songwriters, and I've got no one to blame but myself.

And as I chug through the complete Sly and the Family Stone box set, another thought that occurs to me is this: soul or funk? I think allegiances could be as polarizing as Dems versus Republicans.

And sure it's Marya's tastes, says the person who knows the words to Meat Loaf singing "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights."

It says, despite it being your away stash of tunes (presumably b-list), you have nothing puzzling or mockable. No show tunes. No power ballads by American Idol winners. No secret affection for Mariah Carey. Awesome. Or possibly, scary.

Me, I've got the BeeGees, Neil Diamond, Donna Summer, Muhummed Ali! And almost every cd by the Indigo Girls.

hey, don't be down on the indigo girls!
oh, and believe me, i have some weird shit on my itunes here at work, including such oddities as a hanoi rocks album, a ton of j pop by some woman named UA, and almost every song by delirium. in my defense, all of those things were given to me by a friend of mine who no longer works here. still, i leave them on there.

i also have "take your love and shove it up your ass" by joe pesci (yes, THAT joe pesci).

Ah, Indigo Girls. Take me back, they does. College kiddies, trying to harmonize on "Closer to Fine" of a Friday night. God, we were lame.

But Joe Pesci! All kinds of inscrutable awesomeness.
