Heroes, Sans Nathan. I Am Bereft

And also a little underadrenalined. Discuss.

I don't know, I think you're expecting too much, because I think it's been pretty good. Less of a cliffhanger driven season than last, and more like a mystery novel, trying to slot in the clues. Like, this Andrew dude. I am thinking he might be Kensei Takezo, who, I'm still convinced, is probably immortal. I'm finding Claire's story a bit of a snooze, but it's good to see Silar's evil coming through again. Not sure why the Midas guy is being so nice to Suresh and the copycat woman. He has something unpleasant up his sleeve. Plus, we were shown once again why we must not grow to enamored of Claire's father. He is an evil, twisted man, who just happens to be on the right side of things, for now.

I probably am expecting too much, but I confess that I've been bored. I'm starting not to care what happens. Like at the culmination of yesterday's ep, I was like: yawn. It does seem to be the 24 problem and raising the stakes the next season can be problematic.

I do like puzzling over what Bob is up to--it's like waiting for the anvil to drop on them, and everything he says is double-edged ("does that sound good?" in response to Bob's proposal for someone to "clarify" things; um, does that mean someone dies?)

Silar was the same way: waiting for the evil under the surface to bubble. What would have been interesting in view of his efforts with mom would have been a response of: great! now I can pretend I never tried to end the world--then failing again because of his evil nature.

Remind me on the Andrew dude?

Claire's dad, I'm still convinced, is ends-justify-means. The guy was evil company man, and dad is like Jack Bauer, with evil tricks up his sleeve. God help me, I still kind of fond of him, because he's such a fabulous confluence of death-delivering and mundaneness. He's got a duplicitous teen, for goodness's sake, and he works at a Kinkos. That would make anyone nuts. And don't forget Mr. Muggles.

Hiro is a moron. But perhaps I'm not sentimental. That's called making one's own life and, um, history, more difficult than it needs to be.

But he luuuuuuvs her!

Tell that to the people dying in nuclear disaster or dying of contagious disease or whatever it is that afflicts NYC in that trailer for next week.

Snap out of it, Hiro, and start working toward Mr. Bad-ass with the sword and ponytail that we know you're going to be.

But will he, because they changed that time line? Andrew is the guy who's name was on the file in Bob's office that Suresh saw. Later on Bob says they'll let the girl go because they have a bigger problem on their hands. Suresh asks if it is Andrew and Bob says yes. Then, when Peter and lame Irish woman go into the store in Montreal, he finds a tag with his name on it saying they have to save the world, signed Andrew.
I will admit I multitasked through some of the show this week, though, so it no longer requires full-body immersion, so I guess that could be seen as a drop in quality. Perhaps the next half of the season will be more like the old season.

Wow, I missed all those Andrew references. I was multitasking through all but the note in Montreal. And I still missed that signature.

Lame Irish chick is indeed lame and needs to evaporate from the storyline, although I guess if she's in the painting, she plays a part. Sigh.

Okay, this is interesting. Company (plus Suresh and Nikki) trying to prevent Andrew, but Andrew and Peter "saving the world." But Peter's amnesia makes him vulnerable to manipulation. Tangled alliances!

But Claire's a cheerleader! Woo! Thank god.

Austin's comment after last night's show, upon looking at the previews..."good, it looks like its going to finally pick up a bit next week" ... or something like that. IOW - adreneline-lacking indeed!

Yay! It's not just me.

And the other thing that I'm missing, I think, is the more complex relationships and character interactions we'd built up last season--sibling rivalries with Peter and Nathan; weird dynamic between Claire and Peter; parental manipulations; Hiro and Ando's loyalties and struggles, even Nikki's alter ego. Everybody's isolated or characters and relationships are new.

Yes, I'm working at home today, in fact, and about to dive into the densest part of my task for the day. Sigh. But, note: still in my pajamas. Yay!
