I Am Oh So Northern

Via, who doesn't specify exactly what accent she's sportin'.

What American accent do you have? (Best version so far)

Northern

You have a Northern accent. That could either be the Chicago/Detroit/Cleveland/Buffalo accent (easily recognizable) or the Western New England accent that news networks go for.

I came up as "neutral", cosmopolitan that I am. One time in Japan, a Canadian mistook me for a countryman, so, not always a good thing, ay.

You betcha. Hoser.

I'm disappointed, though. I was hoping my mid-Atlantic time would cosmopolitanize me too.

I'm the same as you Laura. No shock there since I've only ever lived in Michigan. How does one become "neutral"? Do they say Bag like the word Vague? LOL

according to the quiz (and who am i to doubt it?), i am mid-atlantic. thankfully california's diverse, weirdo speech patterns have not infected my own (although i do use the phrase "jacked up" quite a lot).

How does one become neutral? Is it by refusing to take a stand against evil? Excessive affection for Switzerland?

i think they wear a lot of beige.

A hem. Beige-wearing linguistic neutral over here.....guess I'm a blank slate, a drifter, a rolling stone....or a generic "american"....

You're the real Americans! I always thought that was a myth.

I do have one regional quirk to my pronunciation that actually would kick me out of the "neutral" category and as far as I can tell, it's limited to my hometown, Morristown, NJ. In it, the first o of Morristown does not rhyme with "more" but "Mars" and it carries over to words like "orange", which comes out more like "arenge". After being mocked for it, I've worked to erase it, but it still crops up now and again.

I was just itching for them to ask me whether I use "pop" or "soda." Ask me! Ask me!

Soda all the way baby (heh heh heh).
